Dunn grad inspired for cross-country cycle against polio

“Ramesh is scheduled to reach the Sault later this month.
Those interested can cycle with him into the city July 18 at 10:30 a.m. from the corner of Highway 17 and Pineshores Road in Goulais River.
While in the Sault, Ramesh will also be riding in the Rotary Community Day parade July 19 at 11 a.m.
In the meantime, there will be an appreciation ceremony and fundraiser this Sunday, 7 p.m., at the Christ Church at 585 Allen’s Side Rd.“

“In 1953 the polio epidemic peaked in Canada with one of the highest incidences of infection recorded in the world. Since the release of the vaccine, worldwide instances of polio have dropped 99 per cent but polio remains endemic in a number of countries, including India where Ferris was born.“
“A young man stricken with polio as an infant is on a mission to eradicate the disease worldwide. Ramesh Ferris is in Thunder Bay this week raising awareness and money by cycling across the country on a hand-pedalled bicycle.“
