After dipping my first brace into the Pacific Ocean the team headed to Mile Zero where we were greeted by lots of supporters, friends, family, and dignitaries. Today was the official launch of the Cycle to Walk Polio campaign here in Victoria. Thank you to all of the organizers, family, friends, and Yukoners that traveled down to share in this special day.

Today is a day of celebration, Cycle to Walk has been four years in the making, hundreds of volunteer hours by community members in Whitehorse, Victoria, and throughout Canada, 3000kms of hand-cycle training, swimming 10,000 lengths of a 25 metre pool, thousands of emails, and the generosity of Rotary clubs, other service clubs, local businesses, churches, government, and other organizations.

April 12th is also a special day as it marks the 53rd anniversary of the release of Dr. Jonas Salk polio Vaccine. And the day Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope campaign started at our end point of Cape Spear, Newfoundland & Labrador.

Cycle to Walk is truly our country’s project which will have a global impact. I’m so excited to be a part of a team that is sending the message of Polio Eradication, Education, and Rehabilitation!
