Today a bug flew into my helmet which made me happy because it meant that it was warm outside. It was so warm today that I was able to hand cycle in a t-shirt and shorts!

It was another wonderful day of polio awareness and recognition of the Cycle to Walk campaign from communities along the North Thompson River.

As the team headed out of Kamloops, there were so many honks from passing vehicles, thumbs-ups, waves, and smiles. On the side of the road were supporters ranging from a couple from the Yukon, a mother with two children, a family of five, and a woman who saw the team going through the tunnels way back in the Fraser Canyon. There was a gentleman who asked for a picture with us before we even started this morning, as well as a young service station attendant who actually came out to the support vehicle just to meet the team and congratulate us on the campaign!

People are recognizing us from the news as we pass by, and that means they hear the message!  It’s exciting to know that Cycle to Walk is getting the word out that polio is something we can and should end together.  Hopefully, the Canadian government is hearing us too, and it will fulfill its G8 commitment to global polio eradication.  Canada can take a leadership role and help make such a great change to our world, but we must tell our government that this is what we want.

Tonight we ended the day in Barriere and then met up later in the evening with local Lions Club members, including past-President Willie Brown, President Ronald Lanoue, and Secretary Doug Davis, who are pictured below.  Thank-you so much everyone for your donations and generous support of the Cycle to Walk campaign.
