Yesterday, I ran over a staple and blew my first bike tire of the campaign. For now, I’m riding a back up hand-cycle. This morning, I scraped my arm while applying chain grease, which explains the bandage I’m wearing today. Regardless of what’s happened, the team is taking great care of me, I feel great, and I’m ready to ride another day.

After a guided tour of the farm at Lakeland College this morning, the team departed Vermilion and aimed for the Saskatchewan border. We’re excited because we feel the campaign’s message is gaining momentum, and we see it grow bigger every day. Four different groups of people stopped their cars at the side of the road today to give donations and words of encouragement; a gentleman even stopped to give us a large bottle of water from his business.

We crossed the Alberta/Saskatchewan Border at approximately 5:15 pm MST. Two provinces down, eight to go. Yeah – we’re now in Lloydminster!

The campaign has now passed through a territory and two provinces, and I hope the spirit of Cycle to Walk stays alive in the places we’ve already visited. This week I participated in follow-up radio interviews in Whitehorse, Vancouver and Kamloops.  We want to keep in touch.

I invite all Canadians to join Cycle to Walk to make a real difference in our world. Together, we can and we will eradicate polio once and for all, assist with the rehabilitation of polio survivors in poor countries, and educate the people of Canada – and beyond – about the importance of continued immunization efforts to protect people from polio.

Whether we’ve passed through your province or we’re headed towards you, please donate, provide sponsorship, or host a Cycle to Walk event in your community!
