Day 69 - Kenora, Ontario - 69 KM
- Thu, June 19, 2008
The team is ecstatic to have just rolled into the province of Ontario. We arrived in Kenora around dinner time and were warmly welcomed by Rotarian Larry Buhler at the infamous Huskey the Muskey Fish in downtown Kenora. In the evening Larry treated us to a Greek feast at the Plaza Restaurant. Tina and Dimitri Adamopoulos, your restaurant is just wonderful, and the food is more than delicious. Our server Sarah Brose was also a student reporter from Kenora’s local newspaper, the Holidayer. Sarah had already written an article on the Cycle to Walk campaign prior to our arrival. It was great meeting all the staff at the Plaza restaurant, and just like your restaurant slogan, thanks for putting a little “Opa” into our lives.
It’s important for people to know that countless hours have been spent by hard-working volunteers in order to set up speaking engagements, community events, accommodations, and logistical support. The campaign headquarters has divided up the country with designated Route Champions. I would like to take the time to acknowledge and thank Mary Reddoch for all the hard work and time she has put in working as our Route Champion for the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I would like to welcome our new Route Champion for the province of Ontario, Kevin Rumsey of Whitehorse, Yukon. If anyone would like to assist with coordinating events in Ontario please contact Kevin at or phone the Cycle to Walk office at 1-866-599-0045.
We also need volunteers in the communities that we are travelling through to assist with organizing fundraisers, securing local sponsorships, and just working together to spread the Cycle to Walk message farther and louder. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the office.
