Al Johnston, an enthusiastic Cycle to Walk supporter, paid the team a second visit this morning. We met up with Al and his wife Kathy last week when they welcomed the team to Ontario at the provincial border. Kathy sent her best to all of us, as she wasn’t able to join us this time around. Al and Kathy, you two have been great supporters of the cause, and it means a lot to me.
As we head down Highway 17, mosquitoes, black flies and other bugs swarm all around me.  Dragonflies swoop in and eat the biting bugs with glee. Boy do I love dragonflies. They help me as I cycle along the highway in different ways than people can – and for that, I’m thankful.  Regardless of how much they support me, I can’t see anyone on the road team hovering around me to eat bugs all day.

The temperature reached 26 degrees today. Lots of sunscreen and fluids got me through it. While we were pulled off the road for a break, Doug was tempted to take a dive into some water.  Though it didn’t happen today, there’ll be plenty of more opportunities for the team to cool off, as we’re heading towards Lake Superior’s North Shore – just in time for summer!
I was able to participate in a couple of radio interviews back in Whitehorse today, and I also had a chat with CBC Thunder Bay. In the interview, we talked about upcoming Cycle to Walk events that will take place on and around Canada Day, as well as how the campaign’s going in general. If you didn’t hear the interview, we’re doing great!

We progressed 104 km today, and as we arrived in Upsala, Shereen Hill, my old friend and colleague from Whitehorse, was there to greet us. She and Tyler were traveling from Whitehorse to Southern Ontario for a summer holiday.
Many of my friends growing up never thought I could get a tan in the summer because my skin was already dark. However, that’s just not the case. Being on the road day in and day out has resulted in me having some pretty severe tan lines.
