Day 79 - Thunder Bay, Ontario - Non-Cycling Day
- Sun, June 29, 2008
Today all the Anglican Churches officially declared this to be Cycle to Walk Sunday in recognition and support of polio eradication, education and rehabilitation. The Cycle to Walk message was shared at the following churches: St. Thomas, St. Paul’s, St. Michael’s and All Angels, St. Mark’s, and the Parish of West Thunder Bay, and St. Luke’s. It was such a busy day going from church to church, however, each visit was worth the time. It was so moving for me to see the tremendous outpouring of support for the team and for the fight against polio. Many of the church leaders, youth groups, and parishioners have been planning and fundraising for months prior to the arrival of the Cycle to Walk team. Bulletin boards of blog updates, polio stats, pictures, and route maps adorned many of the walls in the churches. BBQs sizzled, and Kitchens bustled with people.
Food was prepared, stories were shared, encouragement was given, and we extended an invitation for more people to join in this exciting campaign to end polio forever. In all of the churches, the offertory from all of the services was donated to the Cycle to Walk campaign. Thank you to The Venerable Andrew Hoskins, The Reverend Deborah Kraft, The Reverend Nancy Ringham, The Reverend Judy Cooper, and The Reverend Peter Smyth for opening the doors of your churches so the message of Cycle to Walk could be shared with your parishioners today.
Thank you to everyone in Thunder Bay’s Anglican community for demonstrating your support for the Cycle to Walk campaign today. Polio does not discriminate, nor does it have any boundaries. It doesn’t matter what religion you practice, where you were born, or what role you play in your community. I would hope that all people from all areas of each community hear the message of Cycle to Walk and send out a message of unity so everyone in the global community can finally get rid of polio forever!
