Confederation College’s Alumni Association and the Student Union of Confederation College Inc. hosted a BBQ for Cycle to Walk at lunch today.
I had the fortunate opportunity to attend the college and graduate from its Social Work program. College life was great! I was heavily involved with student government, and served as president of the Student Union of Confederation College Inc. from 2000-2001. It’s been a tremendous opportunity for me to return seven years later to share Cycle to Walk with my college family. There were so many friends, former colleagues, past presidents and new students to meet and share stories with. The support from Confederation College has been so great.
Cycle to Walk is opening Canadians’ eyes to the fact that polio is still a threat and that it will continue to be one until it’s eradicated outright. Thank you to President Pat Lang and everyone at Confederation College, Susan Macey and everyone in the Alumni Association, and Laura McFarland and the Student Union of Confederation College for showing so much support of the Cycle to Walk campaign. You are truly sending a message to the rest of the world that we need to come together now to end polio forever.
Our time in Thunder Bay is nearing its end, but we had a wonderful week and I feel we really made an impact on the community. Thank-you to everyone for making us feel at home. It was an especially great feeling for me, seeing as I called Thunder Bay home for several years. A big thank-you to Doris Quistberg –  my friend and manager of Sibley Hall Residence at Confederation College – for opening up the residence for the team over this past week.
Thunder Bay, you have definitely demonstrated that you support a polio-free world. We now hope that we can take this momentum and make a real splash as we venture further into Eastern Canada.
Thanks so much and Take Care!
Ramesh
