Day 87 - Schreiber, Ontario - 89 km - HALFWAY: 3,600 km
- Mon, July 7, 2008
After a hearty breakfast at Skandia House, the people of Nipigon gave the team one of the warmest sendoffs we’ve received. People met us at the side of the road in work clothes – such as nursing scrubs, and garage overalls – and took the time just to see us off. It means so much to us when people take the time and just drop what they’re doing to demonstrate their support for Cycle to Walk. Thank you, again, to everyone in Nipigon for your generosity and support.
I’m sure glad I trained for a couple of years prior to the start of this campaign, because with all the hills today, it felt at times as though I was hand-cycling up a cliff. The sun was blazing, the sweat was pouring, and the bugs were biting. However, quitting has never been an option of mine and the team progressed to the halfway point of our 7200 km journey. I’m so excited to have hand cycled 3,600 km.
To our surprise, Thunder Bay’s Reverend Paul Carr stopped by the side of the road for a visit right when we’d stopped for lunch. Rev. Carr was traveling back home from Marathon. The team was really happy to see him one last time before we continued our journey east.
As the team made its final decent of the day into Schreiber, several community members welcomed us at the bottom of the hill. With such a great sendoff from one town and a warm reception in the other, today has just been great!
