Today, I gained a better understanding of the term, ‘soft shoulders’ – our motor home got stuck in sand on the side of the road this afternoon. We weren’t really set back for all that much time though, as members from the Ontario Provincial Police came to our rescue and towed us out with their truck.

The team took a midday break at the Canadian Carver, where an employee by the name of Chris approached me and said that he had attended a fundraising BBQ for Cycle to Walk and that he was really happy to meet us. During a delicious lunch of fish and chips, people came over to learn more about Cycle to Walk and then proceeded to give us donations.  It’s so nice when people take a break from their summer travels to show interest in Cycle to Walk. We’re always happy to stop and chat with people who want to learn more about what we’re doing.

For anyone from Sault Ste. Marie, I can confirm to you that hand cycling up Mile Hill was a challenge. The grade was so steep that my average speed was only 3 km/h! As we approached the city, even more people stopped to provide us with words of encouragement and donations.

I couldn’t believe how many people honked their horns to show their support for Cycle to Walk as we were entered the Sault. It feels great to be supported in my High School Hometown. Thank you, everyone!
