Cycle to Walk is in need of donations and sponsors!

I have hand-cycled over 4300 km over the past three months, and we still have 2900 km to go. Cycle to Walk is a very important cause which I would hope Canadians will support financially. Polio is 99 per cent eradicated worldwide because over $4 billion dollars have gone to the cause in the last 20 years. We are so close to living in a polio-free world, but we’re not quite there yet. This last one per cent of polio will be the hardest to rid the world of, and we need your help! Remember the days of the iron lungs and see how far we’ve come.
Cycle to Walk has raised over a quarter of a million dollars since we began, but more money is needed. We’re still in need of corporate sponsors to offset the costs of this campaign as well. You can donate directly to the campaign online, and sponsorship information is available here on this website.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative requires hundreds of millions of dollars to operate every year – it is the largest health initiative in world history. World governments and organizations such as Rotary International provide most of that money, but it is a struggle to ‘fill the gap’ and meet the required funding levels every year. This year, $697 million is required to fight polio, and $564 million has already been committed. Most of the required money is already in place, but more is needed!
Polio is in line to become the second disease in human history to be eradicated – we ended smallpox in 1979. We can be a major part of world history here, and we can save money in the long run: it is cheaper to eradicate polio than it is to keep fighting it.
Please help us fund efforts to immunize children, provide rehabilitation and supports for polio survivors, and educate our population of the importance of immunizations.
We can help polio survivors stand up on their own two feet. Let’s send a message to the rest of the world that Canada is a global leader in the fight against polio and the rehabilitation of polio survivors.
Please donate or sponsor Cycle to Walk today. We have all the tools we need to end polio; we need the continued commitment and funds to finish the job.
Your support is so appreciated, just by logging in to this site we know that you are committed to put an end to polio, thank you!
