Day 126 - Lachute, Québec - 43 km

by Ramesh Ferris, posted in Road Updates - Fri, August 15, 2008

imageThe team crossed the Ottawa River and officially rolled into Québec today. We are all just so excited that it’s time for Cycle to Walk to share its message with ‘La belle province.’

Const. Ian Boily of the Sûreté du Québec’s Lachute detachment provided a police escort to City Hall. Councilor Carl Peloquin welcomed us, along with several members of the community and the local media. Lachute City Events Organizer, Nicole Beauchamp, made this all possible through collaboration with our Whitehorse offices (see below). Thank you for making our first day in Québec such a memorable one, Nicole. What a reception!

At City Hall, Kind words were exchanged, several interviews were conducted, and the entire Cycle to Walk team was invited to sign the Golden Book of Lachute. It’ s such a great feeling to enter a new province and be welcomed so warmly. Thank you so much to everyone for your kindness and support for making this a polio-free world.

With every new province comes a ‘changing of the guard’ up at Cycle to Walk HQ. Today, I’d like to welcome Hélène Beaulieu, C2W Quebec Route Champion, to the team. Hélène recently moved to Whitehorse and saw that the office was looking for a francophone to assist with the set-up and coordination of activities while the team is in Québec. Hélène’s hard work has already resulted in a number of Québec events popping up on our events page, and it was her collaboration with Lachute organizers that made our first day in Québec the resounding success that it was. Welcome, Hélène, and thanks so much for joining the team!
