Day 129 - Laval/Montreal, Québec - Escorted Cycle
- Mon, August 18, 2008
Québec’s support for Cycle to Walk is definitely growing, and we’re excited! Today, members of the CATAL retired cyclists club greeted the team along with Rotarians and representatives of the City of Laval. Everyone participated in a nice police-escorted cycle through the streets and had a wonderful time. A big thanks to the service de la police de la Ville de Laval for keeping everyone safe, and to Johanne Lachapelle who helped co-ordinate the event from the top!
During the Cycle I enjoyed some conversations in English – but for the most part, everyone spoke French. I was filled with joy because even though I couldn’t understand what was being said, I knew that everyone around me supported Cycle to Walk and the dream of a polio-free world. After the cycle, we all enjoyed a nice lunch together, and I had the chance to deliver Cycle to Walk’s first bilingual presentation.
Thanks so much Manon Lennon, Présidente of the Rotary Club de Laval, for doing such a great job of organizing the day’s events and translating Cycle to Walk’s message for members of the Laval community. You generated a great deal of excitement for Cycle to Walk; many people stuck around after the presentation to ask questions, make donations, and buy t-shirts. The Rotary Club de Laval has generously provided the team with hotel rooms for the duration of our stay in the city. The hospitality we’ve received so far in Québec has been just fantastic!
Later on in the afternoon, we navigated the busy freeways of Montreal to join Bernie St. Laurent at CBC studios for his “Home Run” afternoon radio program. It was great to meet you, Bernie. Thanks for having me on your show, and thanks for your enthusiastic support of the campaign!
On the way back to Laval from Montréal, we were greeted with an intense thunder storm. Everyone managed to stay dry though, and we rested up to prepare for yet another exciting day in Montréal and Laval.
