Follow Ramesh's Journey

Before we began cycling today, it was off to CBC Radio in Québec City to share the message of Cycle to Walk across the province on Quebec AM. We departed the city for the last time shortly thereafter so we could make it to Montmagny City Hall to meet with Mayor Jean-Guy Desresier and several members of the Rotary Club of Montmagny. Everyone in the welcoming party was extremely supportive of Cycle to Walk and was so happy that we stopped in to say hello and share the message of polio eradication, education, and rehabilitation.

After the meeting and a quick lunch, Constable Jimmy Lamontagne of the Sureté de Québec met the team to provide us an escort out of town. It was nice to be back on the road after a few days off from hand cycling, but I have to say that the headwinds and a few small hills made it feel a bit rough at times. There were very dark thunderclouds as well, but fortunately, everyone stayed dry.

We have experienced relatively flat terrain since arriving in Québec and there has been little in the way of headwinds. The terrain definitely changes when the St. Lawrence widens. We rode past the part of the river where salt water and fresh water begin to mix and ocean tides begin to take effect.

The team is just so excited to be pushing closer to the New Brunswick border. It’s kind of weird for us though because we spent two months in Ontario, but our visit in Québec has blown by in less than two weeks. We rested our tired heads at the 180-year-old home of Mario Bélanger and Lise Bernier, who opened their unique home in Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies to the team. Mario sells kites, and his shop on the side of the highway – Le Gîte du Cerf Volant – is really something. I recommend a stop if you’re ever in the area. Most of the team members actually bought kites after having a look around! Mario and Lise’s food and hospitality were just wonderful tonight. Thank you for taking us in and for treating us so well!
