Day 145 - Saint John, New Brunswick- 23 km

imageWe started the morning off with breakfast at the Sunrise Fredericton Rotary Club before saying our final goodbye to John Firth and hitting the road. Kip Veale has stepped up to replace him on the road team, and it’s great to have her aboard.

The weather bomb finally hit the road team today and we entered Saint John in a heavy rain. We’ve heard so many comments from people about how wet of a summer this has been, but the road team has almost always had great weather We were due for a day of rain at the very least! We’ve been very fortunate.

This afternoon, we rounded a corner and I caught my first glimpse of the Bay of Fundy. I was in awe of the beauty (even though it was raining).  It was then that I thought to myself, WOW – we’re at the Atlantic Ocean!  We’re getting close to actually completing Cycle to Walk’s cross-Canada journey.

I don’t think everything that’s transpired over these past 145 days has really ever had a chance to sink in. Perhaps it will hit me while I’m sitting in a hot tub at the Canada Games Centre back in Whitehorse!

Marilyn Singh and John Buchanan from the Saint John Rotary Club greeted the team on the highway. We all had a brief meet and greet at a tourist information centre before being escorted into the City of Saint John by Constable Les Drost of the Saint John Police Force’s Traffic Unit. Constable Drost led us straight to our fabulous harbourfront accommodations donated by the Hilton Saint John Hotel.

Later in the evening, Marilyn and her sons Caleb and Andrew treated us to a wonderful dinner in their home. It’s great to be in Saint John! We’ve only been here a few hours, but we’ve made several great friends and we feel so welcome. Thanks to everyone for your support!
