Day 164 - On the Atlantic Ocean - En-route to Newfoundland & Labrador

imageWho’s excited to wake up at 4:00am? The Cycle to Walk en-route team is!! We were on the road to the ferry terminal at 5:00 am today so we’d be on board for a 7:00 departure. The voyage from North Sydney to Argentia is going to take about 19 hours, and we’d like to send out a great big thank you to Marine Atlantic for providing a discount on our fares, and for allowing us to sell t-shirts, take donations and share the message to passengers aboard the MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood!

It’s a great surprise to see our friends Vanessa, Steph and Matt from the Run for One Planet campaign on the same ferry as us. The last time our two campaigns met was out on the highway in Northern Ontario!  It’s wonderful to see people carry out their dreams of making the world a healthier, better place to live in.

While the Cycle to Walk campaign will wind down after Cape Spear, the Run for One Planet journey will continue on into the USA spreading their own message. All the best, Vanessa, Steph and Matt – may you continue to share your message with positive energy and great health.

The Bilingual Steward of the MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood, Daniel Poirier, has taken great care of us during the voyage. He’s ensured that announcements about Cycle to Walk are made, he toured us up on the bridge, and he’s made every effort to ensure that the team feels at home on the open ocean. Thank you Captain Peter Adams, Daniel, and all of the crew for making the team feel so welcome on this long voyage.

I’ve had several hours to just stare out to sea and reflect on the campaign today. I feel so pleased with the success we’ve had together over these past 166 days. We have worked together to put polio back in forefront of Canadians’ minds, we have raised a few hundred thousand dollars, and we have put a face back on this forgotten about disease.

The team is about tor arrive in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and we’re all so excited to be where we are!
