We live in such a beautiful country. Today I hand cycled 76 km through the Canadian Rockies, completing Cycle to Walk’s journey through British Columbia. We have now covered approximately 890 km and are 1,131 m above sea level. The message of Cycle to Walk is growing, and it needs to get bigger and bigger until everyone in Canada hears the message of polio eradication, education, and rehabilitation. Together, we can make a real difference.

Since the start of 2008 an additional 354 people were confirmed to have contracted polio. We have the tools to rid the world of this horrible, paralyzing, fatal disease. We need the commitment and money to finish the job. I contracted polio 25 years after the world had a prevention. It’s now been over 53 years, and children continue to die and become paralyzed by a disease which is completely preventable. I don’t want to see any child live with the effects of polio, Cycle to Walk doesn’t want to see it, and by supporting Cycle to Walk, I’m hoping Canadians will send a message to the rest of the world that we won’t sit back and let any more of the world’s children be paralyzed needlessly by polio when we’re so close to eradicating it forever.  The job is 99 per cent done, and we’ve never been closer.  Polio is incredibly contagious, and if we don’t keep up with immunizations, the number of confirmed cases will rise again.
