While I was growing up, my mom would enforce the 10 am - 10 pm rule: all outgoing and incoming phone calls would have to be made within that window of time. Last night my cell phone rang just after midnight, and I answered the call without knowing who it was. It turned out to be gentleman by the name of Lalantha, who phoned from Australia. Lalantha and I have never met, but he heard of the Cycle to Walk campaign on Facebook and called just to wish the team well. Lanantha is originally from India and was very excited about the campaign. He said he hopes Cycle to Walk will involve other countries in the future. Thanks for the words of encouragement Lalantha, there are always exceptions to my mother’s phone rule!

Today the cycling started at 9 am and ended at 8 pm. It was a constant headwind of 40 km/h for nearly eight hours today as the team headed towards North Battleford. There were lots of honks, cheers, and roadside donations today. Along the shoulder of the road, a man shared with us that his dad had polio. A couple traveling back to Whitehorse stopped to say hello and make a donation. Thanks Mike and Rayna for stopping, and have a safe trip back to the Yukon. After crossing the bridge into North Battleford, a young girl waited for us along the side of the road with her mother to make a donation.

Polio doesn’t discriminate and it has no boundaries. It doesn’t matter which country you are from, which province you live in; your gender, religion, and spoken language do not matter. We need to work together as a global community to address a global issue. It’s encouraging for the team to see the growth in the campaign. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement and your generous donations.
