As we have been cycling I have come to enjoy the sound of trains passing by; some of them will sound their horns to show support of the Cycle to Walk. I have learned that hearing the sound of the trains at 5:00am doesn’t quite give me that same feeling.

The cycling today started with heavy rain, sleet, and wind. I had hot packs stuffed in my boots and gloves as it was so cold. The terrain was full of ups, downs, bridges, and tunnels. For fun in my family growing up, we would hold our breath when we went through tunnels or over bridges. Unfortunately I had to break this rule as I found it hard to hand-cycle and hold my breath.

I noticed today there were more honks of support from trucks and cars. There were two occasions where people ran to the motorhome or myself to donate to Cycle to Walk. Thanks to all the transport truck divers for being so respectful by giving the team lots of space as we drive on the shoulders of the road.

While the team was at a pull-out for a rest, we visited with two returning Yukoners who were finished school in Victoria and were headed back to Whitehorse for the summer.

The team worked together to advance about 70kms to Boston Bar.  The day ended with windy, cold, and snowy conditions, I froze my fingers over the last 5kms but quickly thawed at the Canyon Alpine Motel.

The motel owner’s son is a pilot for Air North and she provided the team with discounted rooms.  Thanks so much!
